The Magical Sunset-Manhattanhenge July.12.2011

WARNING: Don't look at these pictures too long, you might hurt your eyes. Or you should wear sunglass when viewing the pictures :)

It's great that I was able to catch both May and July 2011 Manhattanhenge this year. Last time, in May, I posted and showed the pictures view on 57th Street. Today its even more fun with my girlfriends joining me and we were right on 34th Street. We went way down to 10 - 11th Ave. to make sure we are not blocked by the crowd. We end up had a great view. The sunset was, golden bright, huge round, and amazingly beautiful. I'm so grateful to be able to have time to get out there, get together with my friends, and witnessed the magical Sunset that only happens twice a year. It's a wonderful feeling...I'm blessed!

"Manhattanhenge" only happens twice a year, when the setting sun aligns with the east west streets of Manhattan's main streets grid above 14th street. Its only for four-five minutes for the stunning Manhattan sunset. Last time in May, a local man on the street mentioned that there were perpendicular shadows that line up exactly with sidewalks, street corners and painted lines.

We were on 34th Street and 11th Ave around 8:14pm. At that time the traffic was slowed down, couple guys were stopped and taking pictures right in the middle of street... I was so happy and so excited to taking pictures and recording video. What I saw were way more beautiful and way more amazing than these pictures. I could not capture the perfect round sun... These pictures are combination from my camera, Penny's camera, and Sue's camera.

Hope you enjoy these as much as I'm. Hope you would join me next year :), I plan to be on 14th Street for May 2012 and 42th Street fro July 2012.... Hopin, and wishin I would make it next year...

I will post more pictures from Penny when she send them to me.
Have a magical day everyone!

The sun reflection on the building... what a beautiful day. In our front was the huge Sun and in our back was the beautiful view of the Empire State Building. Too sad that I could not catch the real, actual huge round look of the sun. The Sun is messing up through my camera.... :( Do someone know the tricks to capture the perfect round Sunset??? Please share!!!

And here are what Suzanna took...
She went to a totally different idea...I love the way she captured me and the guy on the middle of the street to show the story on this street corner when the sunset was happening. The guy and I were both crazy people running around taking pictures and recoding video. Thanks Suzanna for these great pictures. I love them, feeling like the sun was dropping sunshine on me....

  1. Set your Exposure Value Compensation to as low as possible to not overexpose the sun. The buildings will most likely black, but hey, the sun's the star here :) If you're a bit more advanced, you can take HDR shots.
